GLEN ECHO, Md. — The National Park Service signed a Finding of No Significant Impact for the Glen Echo Park Management Plan Amendment, completing the plan’s environmental review.
With the decision, the NPS will use the amended plan to guide future planning and design. The decision does not authorize construction or facility removal, provide funding or establish a construction schedule.
The FONSI applies to the management plan amendment and does not constitute environmental approval of any future site-specific project.
What the plan does
- Updates the 2001 management plan to provide broad guidance for future planning related to accessibility and visitor circulation, arts and cultural programming, stormwater management, historic preservation, and protection of natural resources.
- Identifies general areas where facilities may be considered in future planning. These areas are not approved building locations or designs. The size, location and appearance of any future facility would be determined through additional planning and review.
- Identifies facilities that may be evaluated for possible removal in future planning. NPS has not made a decision to remove any facility, and no removal work is scheduled or authorized by this decision.
What happens next
As resources become available, NPS may coordinate with Montgomery County, the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, and other partners to consider priorities and potential proposals.
Any specific project proposed in the future would require additional planning and design and would undergo applicable environmental, historic preservation and other required reviews before construction could begin. Opportunities for public involvement would be provided as applicable.
Visitors should not expect immediate changes to park access, facilities or programs.
The Finding of No Significant Impact, environmental assessment and related planning documents are available on the National Park Service Planning, Environment and Public Comment website.
