George Washington Memorial Parkway Clears Way for Major Safety and Bridge Repairs on Clara Barton Parkway


GLEN ECHO, Md. — The National Park Service issued a finding of no significant impact for the Clara Barton Parkway Cantilever Bridge and Glen Echo Overpass Project. The decision confirms the work will not cause significant harm to the environment.

NPS prepared an environmental assessment to evaluate the effects of the proposed rehabilitation work along Clara Barton Parkway. The project area runs between Cabin John Parkway and the MacArthur Boulevard exit ramp in Montgomery County, Maryland.

The project will replace the aging cantilever bridge, rebuild nearby retaining walls and demolish the Glen Echo Overpass in Glen Echo, Maryland. The work will address structural concerns, improve safety for drivers and help prevent major traffic disruptions in the future.
