Junior Ranger Programs

The National Park Service Junior Ranger program is an activity based program conducted in almost all parks. This program offers young visitors the opportunity to join the NPS "family" as Junior Rangers, each taking an oath to protect parks, continue to learn about parks, and share their Junior Ranger story with friends and family.

Children interested in the Junior Ranger program at Glen Echo Park have several activity booklets they can complete to earn a Junior Ranger badge and certificate. This FREE program is available specifically for children ages 3-12 but people of all ages are welcome to participate.

Glen Echo Park has THREE Junior Ranger booklets. All of these books, and badges, can be picked up onsite or at Park Headquarters at Turkey Run Park (Monday-Friday). Books can also be downloaded with the links below. Badges can be given onsite, at Park Headquarters, or received via mail (after book completion). For information, please call Great Falls Visitor Center at 703-757-3101.

Glen Echo Park/Clara Barton Junior Ranger Handbook - this is the main activity book for both side-by-side park sites and is recommended for ages 7-12 years old. Completion of activities within this booklet will allow visitors to earn both Glen Echo Park and Clara Barton Junior Ranger badges! Pick up a booklet from a ranger or download a PDF copy here.

Lil' Junior Ranger booklet - this activity booklet is for ages 3-6 and contains age-appropriate activities, allowing even our youngest visitors the opportunity to earn a Glen Echo Park Junior Ranger badge. Pick up a booklet from a ranger or download a PDF copy here.

Civil Rights Junior Ranger booklet - this special edition activity booklet explores the Civil Rights story of Glen Echo Park. Completion of the activities within this booklet will earn kids a Glen Echo Park Civil Rights Junior Ranger badge. Pick up a booklet from a ranger or download a PDF copy here.

Junior Ranger Program Swearing-In Event: Have you completed a Clara Barton, Glen Echo Park or Theodore Roosevelt Island junior ranger booklet and would like to be sworn in by a ranger and receive a junior ranger badge? If so, you may meet a park ranger at the Candy Corner Ranger Station in Glen Echo Park on the first Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. You may also pick up junior ranger books you would like to work on during this time. Please consider attending the ranger-led Civil Rights and History tour at Glen Echo Park that starts at the carousel at 10:00 a.m. on the first Saturday of the month as well. The junior ranger program offers people of all ages the opportunity to learn more about the parks.

While you're participating in Glen Echo Park's Junior Ranger program, consider taking advantage of the Junior Ranger program at the Clara Barton National Historic Site located right next door. Information on their program can be found on their website here.
