Data Management

Data Management centers on service wide database standards, design, implementation, and maintenance of information that contains a spatial component.

The GIS Division has taken the first step in creating NPS National data layers. These layers include NPS Boundaries, National Trail System, Park Trails, and Wilderness Boundaries (can be found in the NPS GIS Data Clearinhouse page). In addition the standard procedures and attibues are defined

The first cross program meeting occurred October, 2002. The represented programs were: Cultural Resources, Facilities, Fire, Information Systems, GIS, Lands, Natural Resources, and Public Use Statistics.

Each program described their data holdings and offered spatial and tabular data to be shared in a central repository, or corporate data store. The table below identifies the initial tables and fields (if available), by program, to be used in the initial creation of the repository.
