The Gettysburg Foundation and Gettysburg National Military Park invite veterans and Adams County residents to a Community Appreciation Day on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. On four designated Community Appreciation Days each year, Adams County residents enjoy free admission to the Cyclorama painting, Film and Museum Experience at Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. This fourth appreciation day of the year falls on Veterans Day, and U.S. military veterans will be admitted free of charge.
 
In conjunction with Community Appreciation Day, the Rupp House History Center will be open with special hours from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is free and tickets are not required.
 
Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center Offers Free Admission to A New Birth of Freedom Film, the Gettysburg Cyclorama Painting with Sound and Light Effects and the 12-GalleryGettysburg Museum of the American Civil War

Visitors can start with a film presentation of A New Birth of Freedom, immediately followed by the sound and light show on the spectacular 377-foot Cyclorama painting of Pickett’s Charge completed in 1884. Then visit the 12-gallery Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War. The Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center is located at 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Veterans Day Hours: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.―the last film and cyclorama show will begin at 4 p.m.
 
Local visitors should be prepared to show proof of Adams County residence, such as a driver’s license, to obtain tickets. Visitors are encouraged to arrive early.
 
David Wills House Delivers History and Preservation

The David Wills House is the home where Abraham Lincoln stayed the night before delivering the Gettysburg Address. Located on the square in downtown Gettysburg, the David Wills House offers a museum tour that includes five galleries, two recreated rooms including the Lincoln bedroom, interactive stations, two films, an 1863 Gettysburg downtown diorama and a gift shop. Visitors can walk in President Lincoln's footsteps from the Gettysburg Lincoln Railroad Station, located at 35 Carlisle Street, to the David Wills House. Veterans Day Hours: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
 
Rupp House History Center Offers Civilian and Soldier Experiences

The Rupp House History Center offers visitors a glimpse of civilian life during the Civil War, particularly the John Rupp family who lived here during the battle of Gettysburg, and the soldiers who fought in and around Gettysburg, through interactive displays and hands-on exhibits. Located at 451 Baltimore Street in downtown Gettysburg, the Rupp House History Center is within driving distance of the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, Gettysburg’s town square and within walking distance of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery. Veterans Day Hours: noon to 5 p.m.
