The visitor center at Fort Wadsworth will be closed for building repairs beginning Sunday, July 1.
News Release Date: July 2, 2012 As of July 1, 2012, the Visitor Center at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island has closed for building repairs and for a much-needed restoration of museum exhibits. It is anticipated to reopen by spring 2013. The park will continue to offer tours and visitor services at the site, such as the popular Lanterns Tours, tours of Fort Tompkins, and special events such as those presented by Staten Island OutLOUD.For more information and full listing of park programs, visit the park website: www.nps.gov/gate About Gateway National Recreation Area Established in 1972, Gateway National Recreation Area offers more than 26,000 acres of marshes, wildlife sanctuaries and recreational athletic facilities, miles of sandy beaches; indoor and outdoor classrooms; picnicking and camping areas, as well as historic structures and military installations, airfields, a lighthouse, and adjacent waters around New York harbor.
