Environmental Assessment Notice of Public Availability and Open House: The National Park Service (NPS) has made available for public and regulatory review the Environmental Assessment (EA) for the Staten Island Unit Maintenance Facilities Project, Relocation of Hurricane Sandy Damaged Maintenance Facilities to More Sustainable Locations. This project would make the maintenance facilities resilient to coastal storm surges and flooding through relocation to areas outside the 100-year floodplain. The EA evaluates the potential impacts of the NPS preferred alternative and the no-action alternative. The NPS preferred alternative includes the construction of an outdoor covered parking structure and the adaptive reuse and/or repurpose of some existing maintenance facilities at Fort Wadsworth and the construction of a permanent maintenance facility at Miller Field. The ongoing participation of the public is very important to the success of this project. We invite you to attend an Open House to learn more about the project, the Environmental Assessment, ask questions, and share your comments. Open House: Fort Wadsworth, Gateway National Recreation Area The EA will be available for public review and comment for a period of 30 days from May 27 through June 26, 2015. Please go to https://parkplanning.nps.gov/gate to view the EA and comment electronically. You are also welcome to mail comments directly to: Office of the Superintendent Please postmark written comments by June 26 for consideration.
