The second annual Gateway National Recreation Area photography contest will be held during the month of July.  For this competition, we are asking you to tell us the story of "I found my park!" through your pictures. The pictures must be recent (taken within the current year), and should be of any park you use, enjoy and consider yours.  The pictures do not need to be of Gateway, or any park in the National Park Service (NPS) system to be considered.

Points will be scored by pictures that tell a story and are easily identified as taken at a park, by demonstrating recognizable features of the park.  The overall theme is nature/people/park images against the backdrop of the New York or New Jersey metropolitan area.  For example, a full frame photo of a bird on a beach or prickly pear cactus in bloom, will not be accepted.

Contest entries will be judged by a committee comprised of NPS staff and professional photographers, and the top 10 images will be placed on Facebook for crowd sourced voting.  The winners and top contenders will win modest cash prizes and will be included in an exhibit at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge in the fall.  All photos that are submitted will enter the Public Domain.  Each person may submit up to three images.  All submissions must be electronic, no paper or print images may be submitted.  Please submit photos of at least 600 dpi during the month during the month of July to e-mail us.  Pictures that do not fit the contest guidelines or those that have insufficient dpi will be accepted.

For more information and rules, please www.nps.gov/gate/planyourvisit/REV-Photo-contest-FYP-Edition.pdf. First prize is $100, second prize is $50, and third prize is $25.  So send us your best shots!
