Fort Hancock: A Small Town Traveling Discovery Kit. Grades 4-6. No fee.

This traveling kit contains reproduction artifacts of items used by soldiers and residents of Fort Hancock. The kit includes a narrative and activities using the artifacts, and is designed for classroom use. It can be used alone, or as a pre-visit activity by using the companion folder, “A Day at Fort Hancock”.

Hooked on Math Lesson Plans. Grades 3-8. No fee.

Six self-guided Lesson Plans for grades 3-8 that integrate New Jersey Core Curriculum Social Studies and Marine Science Curriculums with Mathematics. Lessons use Sandy Hook cultural and natural resources; Mortar Battery, Sandy Hook Lighthouse, Nine-Gun Battery Field and North Beach. On-site equipment used with the lessons include metric and English trundle wheels and measuring tapes, hand-held GPS units, calipers, hand lenses and beach profiling poles. Lessons include pre-visit and post visit activities.

Fort Hancock: A Bastion of America’s Eastern Seaboard. High School. No fee.

An off-site Lesson Plan for classroom use, developed by the National Park Service’s National Register of Historic Places and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Explores the development of the U.S. Coastal Defense System in the late 19th century and its connection to the country’s foreign policy

Fort Hancock and the Women's Army Corps. Grades 7-12. No Fee.

An off-site Lesson Plan for classroom use, developed in cooperation with Monmouth University. Learn about the women who worked at Fort Hancock during World War II, first as the Women's Auxiliary Army Corps, and then as full military members in the Women's Army Corps. Lesson includes an oral history interview with a Fort Hancock WAC.

An off site lesson plan for classroom use, developed in cooperation with Monmouth University. Learn about the history of the Sandy Hook Lighthouse and the role of lighthouses to navigation.
