Each national park has various departments that manage visitor protection, interpretation and education, facilities and infrastructure, and the protection and preservation of cultural and natural resources. Explore our departments to gain a better understanding of how the National Park Service manages First State. Please keep in mind that First State is still a young park and will need time to grow.

Office of the Superintendent

The Office of the Superintendent is located at the New Castle Court House Museum. This office has the ultimate responsibility for managing the park with a staff of 7 National Park Service employees, including cooperating with our partner's and the surrounding communities.

Facility Management and Operations

This division oversees the operation of maintaining the Brandywine Valley Unit that is made up of more than 1,300 acres with recreational trails.

Resource Education & Interpretative Programs

Education and Interpretative rangers are the bridge between visitors and the park. While you may not see a lot of flat hats around the park, our rangers are working behind the scenes to create interpretative media and organize large educational field trips to the park.

Resource & Visitor Protection

The park's law enforcement division works to protect the park's natural and cultural resources while ensuring the safety of visitors, volunteers, and staff. You can report non-emergencies, crimes, or concerns to the park's law enforcement division through email (e-mail us). For emergencies, please dial 9-1-1 for immediate assistance while in the park. Learn more about the park's laws and policies.
