The Greyhound Bus Depot and the Anniston Civil Rights Trail are located in an urban setting in Anniston, Alabama.

Please take the following precautions while visiting these sites:

  • You may cross busy streets, or navigate uneven paths while visiting the site.
  • Use crosswalks and be cautious while crossing busy streets.
  • Wear good walking shoes when visiting the park and watch your step.
  • Guard your valuables. Make sure to put your valuables out of site and lock your car.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Call 911 in case of emergency.

This was the approximate location where the Freedom Riders' bus was burned. The highway and landscape have changed, but this historical marker tells a part of their story.

The Greyhound Bus Burning Site is located off of Highway 202 outside of are Anniston, Alabama. The site is currently two disconnected grassy areas with no visitor facilities.

Please take the following precautions while visiting this site:

  • Use caution when crossing or walking along any roadway. Vehicles have been known to drive fast along these roadways.
  • The fields are uneven. Watch your step and wear good walking shoes.
  • Be aware of environmental hazards including ants and wildlife.
  • Check the weather before you visit and come prepared. High temperatures can cause heat exhaustion and heat stroke, so stay hydrated and wear sunscreen.
  • Consider visiting at another time if high winds, thunder, or lightning are present.
  • Please utilize primitive gravel areas for parking on the park side of the road. Please do not park along the road in the yards of local land owners.
  • Please do not turn around in the driveways of local landowners.
  • Guard your valuables. Make sure to put your valuables out of site and lock your car.
  • Call 911 in case of emergency.
