POINT MARION, PA – On Saturday, April 25, the National Park Service and the Friendship Hill Association invite the public to attend a presentation and nature walk presented by Jack Gates at Friendship Hill National Historic Site, the home of Albert Gallatin. Author of the book Spring Wildflowers of Eastern Woodlands, Photos, Facts and Folklore, Mr. Gates will give a presentation on area flora in the Friendship Hill theatre at 1 p.m. Following his presentation, Mr. Gates will lead an approximately 2-mile walk through Friendship Hill National Historic Site down to the Monongahela River.
Anyone who wishes to attend this event should wear appropriate clothing for the weather, bring bug spray, sunblock, water and wear appropriate closed-toed shoes. This event is presented rain or shine.
About Mr. Jack Gates
Mr. Gates has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Pennsylvania State University and a degree in Doctor of Dental Surgery from Temple University. He developed a curiosity of the natural world, especially the beautiful flowers he has encountered on spring hikes. Coupling a scientific understanding with a desire to know more, he began to research and photograph these beautiful, but fleeting flowers of Spring.
Friendship Hill National Historic Site
Friendship Hill is the historic country home of Albert Gallatin. Gallatin is best known for serving as Secretary of Treasury under Presidents Jefferson and Madison. Friendship Hill National Historic Site is located on Route. 166 between Point Marion, PA, and New Geneva, PA.
