General Lafayette returns to Friendship Hill
POINT MARION, PA – On Sunday, June 1, 2025, the National Park Service (NPS) and Friendship Hill Association invite the public to attend the return of the revolutionary general the Marquis de Lafayette to Friendship Hill National Historic Site, the home of Albert Gallatin. 2024 and 2025 marks the bicentennial of Lafayette’s grand tour of the United States.
In recognition of the May 27 - 28, 1825 visit of Lafayette to Friendship Hill, the NPS will have General Lafayette portrayed by Benjamin Goldman and Albert Gallatin portrayed by Ron Duquette in attendance at Friendship Hill National Historic Site from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
"We are pleased to partner with our Friends Group, local historical and civic organizations to present this commemoration,” said Friendship Hill National Historic Site Chief of Interpretation and Site Manager Brian Reedy. "Lafayette's visit to Friendship Hill is a keystone event in the site's history."
Author and historian Mr. Brady Crytzer will also be in attendance as part of the day's events. The West Virginia University (WVU) fife and drum corps and Pennsylvania state VFW band of North Union VFW Post 8543 will perform at Friendship Hill as part of the bicentennial. Food vendors will also be on site. The Gallatin house will be open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and the grounds from sunrise to sunset.
The following is a schedule of Sunday’s events:
11:00 to 12:00 - North Union VFW post 8543 will perform
12:00 to 12:30 - Mr. Brady Crytzer will speak on Layfette's visit to Southwestern Pennsylvania
12:30 to 12:45 - WVU Fife and Drum will perform
12:45 to 1:15 - Mr. Brady Crytzer will interview General Lafayette and Mr. Gallatin
1:15 to 2:05 - General Lafayette will speak to those in attendance with questions by the audience to follow

Friendship Hill is the historic country home of Albert Gallatin. Gallatin is best known for serving as Secretary of Treasury under Presidents Jefferson and Madison. Friendship Hill National Historic Site is located on Route. 166 between Point Marion, PA, and New Geneva, PA.
