Glimpses of the Past:  October 15, 2015 "Women of the Santa Fe Trail"

LAS VEGAS, NM:  Traversing more than 800 miles overland through the great plains along the Santa Fe Trail was a daunting task for anyone who sought to make their way west. Hazards were a constant on the trail with severe storms, thirst, attacks, and the constant threat of sickness could all end the journey of even the best prepared wagon teams. Often left out of the exiting and grueling tales of overland trails west are the stories of women who abandoned friends, family, and the safety of home to face the difficulties of the trail with uncommon fortitude in the hopes of a better future.

Join Dr. Jane Richter of Oklahoma Panhandle State University for a special and intimate look at the Santa Fe Trail and the women who braved the storied trail west. This program will be held at the CCHP/Santa Fe Trail Interpretive Center, 116 Bridge Street, Las Vegas, New Mexico, Thursday, October 15, 2015, 7:00PM.
