We have not one but two great night sky programs coming up! On August 25th – a full moon tour and on September 1st a Dark Sky Astronomy program. Explore the beauty of Fort Union National Monument beneath the glowing light of a full moon as the prairie takes on a new identity. Join park rangers Saturday, August 25th for a 1.25 mile tour through the historic grounds of the old fort and the Santa Fe Trail beneath an open night sky. The tour will bring together the history of the fort and stories from the stars.

We also have a Dark Skies Astronomy program setup for September 1st. The Full Moon tour will start at 8:30 pm and the Astronomy program will start at 7:30 pm – both at the visitor center and will run till approximately 10:00 pm. The park will remain open throughout the evening with limited access to the trail, so feel free to arrive early and enjoy the twilight hours of the park before the programs begin. Please bring water, a light jacket, and comfortable shoes.
