National Park Week
Come and enjoy America's Best Idea - the national parks - in a National Park as the National Park Service and Fort Union National Monument celebrate National Park Week and like national park units around the country, Fort Union will recognize National Park Week by waiving entrance fees April 22 - 26, 2013. With 401 National Parks around the country, every American is less than 100 miles for a National Park experience.
During National Park Week, Fort Union National Monument, which is a short drive from Las Vegas, will offer free admission. "This is a great opportunity to visit a national Park in our back yard to explore the vast cultural resources of the fort and the Santa Fe Trail" said Superintendent Charles Strickfaden.
Fort Union (1851-1891) was the largest military post and supply center of the southwest. The National Park Service preserves and tells the story of Fort Union and the Santa Fe Trail. Fort Union National Monument is located near Watrous, exit 366 off I-25, 8 miles on NM-161.
