Las Vegas, NM: "Who Is Alexander Doniphan?" will be featured on Thursday, August 16, 2012, at 7:00PMat the CCHP/Santa Fe Trail Interpretive Center, 116 Bridge Street. Alexander Doniphan, author of a legal code that still forms the basis of New Mexico's Bill of Rights, served as a Colonel in the U.S. Army during the U.S. -Mexican War and led an interesting life as a soldier, attorney, and politician. Join Dr. Joe McCaffrey and discover the interesting stories of Alexander Doniphan's life.
Joe McCaffrey, a native of Albuquerque and a classmate of the late mayor, Henry O. Sanchez, graduated from St. Mary's High School, received a bachelor's and master's degree from New Mexico Highlands University, and received a Ph.D. from Colorado State University. Joe credits his love of southwest history and his interest in Colonel Alexander W. Doniphan to the late Professor Lynn I. Perrigo.
