Fort Union National Monument Hosts Candlelight Tours August 22nd Fort Union National Monument, National Park Service, offers the annual “Candlelight Tours” on August 22, 2009. The evening tours will begin at 8:00pm, 8:30pm and every 20 minutes thereafter. The theme is “Social Life at Fort Union”. The attraction of this event is the thrill of touring the park grounds under beautiful night skies and the excitement of hearing sounds and visualizing events and activities of frontier military and civilian life, a reality from 1851-1891. Tours require a reservation, are limited to 20 persons per tour and will last about 30 minutes. Wear comfortable walking shoes and bring a light jacket. Flashlights and cameras are prohibited while on tour. On the special 8:00 pm twilight tour, visitors will be allowed to take flash photographs. Visitors requiring assistance may request a cart ride. Please specify in advance while making reservations. Entrance fees are waived for this event. For reservations please call the park visitor center at (505) 425-8025 between 8:00am-6:00pm.
