Watrous, NM: Join Fort Union National Monument for a guided walking tour of the historic fort by full moonlight on Saturday, August 13. The haunting remnants of the once great fort are especially evocative in the subdued atmosphere of moonlight. A park ranger will be sharing with the audience the history of the fort and its people as well as astronomical observations about the night sky overhead.
This program will not include the use of telescopes.
Park gates will open at 7:30 pm for those interested in a twilight picnic. The guided tour will begin at the visitor center at 9:00 pm and will finish by 11:00 pm. Please bring water, good walking shoes and a light jacket.
If the weather appears dubious or rainy that evening, please call the park at 505-425-8025, ext. 0 to verify that the program will be occurring before driving out to the park.
