Story Time Videos

The following is a series of story time videos created at Ford’s Theatre National Historic Site. Ranger Dani reads aloud selected children’s books all about the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln to help entertain and educate the children in your life. Historical information about Ford’s Theatre and Abraham Lincoln, as well as some thoughtful questions, are also presented throughout each story time.   Ford's Theatre Story Time - Looking at Lincoln

  Ranger Dani reads "Looking at Lincoln" by Maira Kalman, the first in our series of story times related to remembering and honoring President Abraham Lincoln. Who was Lincoln really? A little girl wants to find out. She discovers, among other things, that our sixteenth president was a man who believed in freedom for all, had a dog named Fido, loved Mozart, apples, and his wife's vanilla cake, and kept his notes in his hat.   Ford's Theatre Story Time - Abe Lincoln's Dream

  With the permission of Roaring Brook Press, the second book read by Ranger Dani is “Abe Lincoln’s Dream” by Lane Smith. While visiting the White House on a school tour, a little girl meets the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. She encourages him to follow her on her own tour outside so he can learn how the country continued to carry on after his death. Along the way, Lincoln shares some of his favorite jokes and expresses his newfound happiness.

  Ford's Theatre Story Time - Abe Lincoln Remembers

  With the permission of HarperCollins Publishers, the third story time book is “Abe Lincoln Remembers” by Ann Turner. Before leaving to attend a play at Ford’s Theatre on April 14, 1865, President Lincoln reflects on his life’s journey including his childhood in Kentucky, what he learned as a young adult, his meeting Mary, and his time in the White House.

  With the permission of Penguin Random House publishing company, the fourth story time features “Abe Lincoln: His Wit and Wisdom from A – Z” by Alan Schroeder. Guided by the alphabet, this thought-provoking and silly book is full of information all about Lincoln’s life and legacy.
