Our park welcomes all individuals with a disability! Our park strives to make its park accessible to visitors by removing barriers and communicating accessibility. Major access information includes: This park is not fully wheelchair accessible due to various slope changes, man made and nature made steps, and access paths that are for foot traffic and trail hikers. People in wheelchairs will be limited to their access to the various displays throughout the park.

Service Animals

Service animals are allowed in national parks. See the Americans with Disability Act’s (ADA) definition of a service animal, as well as frequently asked questions. For the safety and well-being of your service animal, please keep in mind:

Visitors be aware of wildlife that may interact with service animals, such as raccoons, snakes, ticks, deer, foxes, and coyotes.

 

Parking

  • The parking lot is located 415 ft from the entrance of the park.
  • There are approximately 12 spaces available for parking. Spots are van accessible but there are no defined handicapped spaces in the parking lot.
  • The parking lot is 50 FT X 73 FT.

Picnic Area

  • The Picnic area is located within 400 FT from the entrance path, and extends towards the back of the field area.
  • There are 7 Picnic tables throughout the area. There are no grills in the area. There are two trash cans in the area.
 

Trails

  • The paths are composed of dirt, stones, and wood chippings. Trails may be soft after rainfall. The Fort Foote Trail can take you to the old Civil War era fort, down to the river's edge, or along Rozier's Bluff.
  • The trail leading from the Welcome to Fort Foote Sign (38.76746 N, 77.02669 W) down to the Walk The Bluff Sign (38.76812 N, 77.02786 W) is 374 FT. To the right from the Walk the Bluff Sign in 83 FT is the Reporting for Duty display ( 38. 76797 N, 77.02806 W). To the left of the Walk the Bluff Sign in 151 FT is the New Forts for a New War display (38.76848 N, 77.02799 W). Continue 151 FT past the New Forts for a New War display and there is a viewshed of the Lower Potomac River and Alexandira, Virginia.
  • The entire trail is approximately 3,648 FT. The width of each trail varies between 3 FT to 7FT. The trail's surfaces are a mix of grass, stones, wood, and tree roots. There is also a bridge located within the trail at the Engineering Evolution that can become slippery in humid and wet conditions, patrons should have caution when approaching the ending slope.
