WRITE TO REMEMBER 9/11 | REGISTRATION

The National Park Service and the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial are partnering with the National Writing Project as another element of the National Day of Learning-Teach to Remember. The National Writing Project will host a teacher/student safe website where they can access resources to write about the lessons learned either from the National Day of Learning or the resources provided through the National Park Service.

This program will encourage students to write stories focused on lessons learned from Flight 93 Story and the 40 passengers and crew members.

Our goal is to inspire a Nation of students in grade 6-12 with the heroic actions of the forty passengers and crew members.

Preview the writing prompts below that will be part of the National Writing Project

*All written responses should be submitted through the National Writing Project. Registration is now open.

1. Families of the people who died on September 11, 2001 and citizens from around the world have left messages in New York, Arlington and Shanksville for those who perished on that day. Using the resources provided, learn about a passenger or crew member from Flight 93 and write them a personal letter based upon what you have learned about their life and their actions.

2. The decision to act courageously is a choice that many of us may be called upon to make at some point in time. The passengers and crew of Flight 93 may have been scared, but they voted to confront their dangerous situation together. Write about a time when you or someone you know acted courageously. What happened? Why was courage required?

3. The Flight 93 passengers and crew were 40 unique individuals who stood together on 9/11 to confront terrorism. They prevented an attack that day and saved countless lives because they worked as a team. Write about a current problem the world presently faces and how people could work together to solve the problem.
