With special events across the country, and free admission to all 412 national parks from August 25 through August 28, the NPS is encouraging everyone to #FindYourPark / #EncuentraTuParque for the centennial.

Flight 93 National Memorial Offers Free Distance Learning Event
Students and teachers are invited to join a live, distance learning session on Friday, September 9 as part of the 15th anniversary observance of September 11, 2001. This educational video conference is made possible through partnership between the National Park Service, Internet2, and the Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research. The free, one-hour program will be broadcast live from Flight 93 National Memorial twice so student audiences coast-to-coast have the opportunity to participate.

Somerset County resident Chuck Wagner, author of the book “Reflections from the Memorial,” will be signing books and giving special presentations about his work at the Flight 93 National Memorial Learning Center on July 23 and July 24. The event is the first in a new series of book-signing opportunities this summer presented by the Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial and the National Park Service.

Volunteers Work to Create Memorial Landscape at Flight 93 National Memorial
On May 13 and 14, the National Park Service, the National Park Foundation, and Friends of Flight 93 National Memorial are continuing a major reforestation effort that will eventually result in 150,000 new trees at Flight 93 National Memorial, the nation’s permanent memorial to the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93, and all of those lost on September 11, 2001.

Tourism To Western PA National Parks Contributes 81 Million To Regional Economy
A new National Park Service (NPS) report based on 2015 visitation shows that 984,471 visitors to the five National Park Service sites in Western PA spent $58 million dollars in communities near the park. The five National Park Service sites include; Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS, Flight 93 National Memorial, Fort Necessity National Battlefield, Friendship Hill NHS, and Johnstown Flood National Memorial. In 2015 visitor spending supported 828 jobs and contributed $81 million to the regional economy.

Through Their Eyes - Flight 93 National Memorial Exhibit Features Tributes Left By Children
“Through Their Eyes,” to be installed at the recently opened Learning Center at Flight 93 National Memorial on March 5, 2016. This exhibit includes children’s images, words, and objects left at the Flight 93 National Memorial as tributes from 2001 to 2016. Visitors to the exhibit will be able to view never before seen tributes left by children who visited the Memorial.

Western PA’s National Parks Welcomes 4th Grade Students through Every Kid in a Park Initiative
The five National Park Service sites in Western PA invite all 4th grade students to visit the parks for free as part of the White House’s new Every Kid in a Park program. Starting September 1, 4th grade students can now go to www.everykidinapark.gov to complete an activity and obtain a free annual entry pass to more than 2,000 federal recreation areas, including national parks.

Secretaries of Interior and Homeland Security to Speak at Flight 93 National Memorial Ceremonies
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson will deliver remarks at the dedication of the Flight 93 National Memorial Visitor Center and the annual 9/11 observance, respectively. The ceremonies on September 10 and 11 honor the 40 passengers and crew of United Flight 93 on the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
