Patchogue, NY – Fire Island National Seashore will host an exhibit reception from 1:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 8 for Wilderness Art Workshop participants. All are invited to meet the artists and see their creative works on display at the Wilderness Visitor Center.

“The exhibit provides a fresh and personal perspective inspired by the seashore’s dynamic shoreline, barrier island wilderness, and iconic Lighthouse,” said Interpretive Specialist Kristin Santos who coordinated the workshops.

Local mixed-media artist David Adams conducted a series of public art workshops throughout the summer at the Fire Island Lighthouse and Wilderness Visitor Center. Workshops included nature sketching, watercolor, mixed-media abstracts, fish printing, and poetry. Over 30 pieces from workshop participants utilizing a range of mediums such as found objects, acrylics, and photography are featured in the exhibit.

People of all ages and all skill levels participated in the workshops. Parents and children, scouts, experienced artists, and poets joined David Adams to experience the seashore through a creative lens. Adams is a volunteer at Fire Island National Seashore and has facilitated the workshops to share his enthusiasm for the seashore and his knowledge and skills as an artist. In addition to the visitor artwork, the exhibit also showcases some of Adams’s works and poetry created during his time on Fire Island.

The art exhibit is open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm through October 14. For more information email us or phone 631-687-4777.
