Meet at the Wilderness Visitor Center. This month's Junior Ranger Workshop: Exploring the Wilderness, will be offered at the Wilderness Visitor Center on Sunday, December 27, at noon. On New Year's Eve, December 31, children can participate in "Seaside Stories and Crafts" from noon to 1 p.m. at the Wilderness Visitor Center. The Fire Island Lighthouse is offering a "Blue Moon" Evening Tower Tour on Thursday, December 31 (by reservation only, $15/person program fee charged). A New Year's Day Hike and Tower Tour is offered the next morning at the Fire Island Lighthouse. Meet at Robert Moses State Park Field 5 on Friday, January 1 at 10 a.m. for the free naturalist-guided hike. A small fee is charged for the tower tour. The Fire Island Lighthouse is closed Christmas Day, but throughout the winter it will be open daily, weather permitting, from noon to 4 p.m. on weekends, and from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on weekdays. Parking is at Robert Moses State Park Field 5. For more information or to make reservations for programs at the Fire Island Lighthouse, call 631-661-4876.
