Fire Island National Seashore will close at 8pm EST Saturday, 8/21 and will reopen when safe to do so. This closure includes concession campgrounds, marinas and backcountry camping.
Visitors and residents of Fire Island should prepare for coastal flooding, beach erosion and hurricane force winds. A voluntary evacuation order is in place for Fire Island visitors and residents, and we strongly encourage visitors to consider returning to the mainland or prepare to shelter in place.
Visitors should expect disruption to ferry service to Fire Island National Seashore visitor sites and Fire Island communities.
As of this update, the last ferries leaving from both Watch Hill and Sailors Haven will depart at 4:00PM EST on Saturday 8/21, all ferries to Watch Hill and Sailors Haven have been cancelled on Sunday 8/22.
All ferries from Bayshore to the western communities will be cancelled on Sunday 8/22 until it is safe to resume operations. All water taxi service will also be cancelled on Sunday 8/22. Please follow the Davis Park Ferry, Sayville Ferry Service, and Fire Island Ferries company websites for the most up-to-date information regarding further disruptions in ferry service to Fire Island communities.
