PATCHOGUE, NY - The NPS announced today that Fire Island National Seashore is accepting applications for the 2018 Artist-in-Residence program. Applications for the two-week residency program are due by February 16.
Artists from all disciplines are encouraged to apply for the 2018 Artist-in-Residence program at Fire Island National Seashore. The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program offers artists focused time to creatively explore Fire Island National Seashore's natural and cultural features during a two-week residency on Fire Island. Fire Island's "dynamic landscapes, beach communities, and maritime heritage provide compelling subjects for the artist," said Chief of Interpretation and Education Kathy Krause.
Emerging and professional artists of all disciplines may apply for the AIR program, during which they live in the park while developing a body of work. Up to four residencies will be awarded through a juried application process based on artistic merit and project proposal. Participating artists contribute to the park's public outreach efforts by conducting presentations, workshops, and/or showcasing their work in an exhibit.
Seventeen artists from disciplines including visual art, sound art, literary art, and mixed media have participated in the Seashore's program since its 2013 launch.
