    Research on barrier island ecosystems and studies of culture, history, and place have been integral to understanding and protecting Fire Island National Seashore's natural and cultural features since the park's establishment. To conduct research at Fire Island National Seashore, you need to provide a study plan and complete an application at the National Park Service Research Permit and Reporting System site.
