There are many opportunities to work for the National Park Service. At Fire Island National Seashore a number of temporary employees are hired each year in several career fields. Summer seasonal positions are generally advertised from late January through early spring. Vacant permanent positions are occasionally announced.
Please see or below for a list of current openings. You must be a U.S. citizen to qualify and a valid state driver's license is required for most positions.
Fire Island National Seashore also offers internships through the Student Conservation Association. Interning is a great way to gain experience in a variety of National Park Service career fields.

New Opportunity: Latino Heritage Internship

The Latino Heritage Intern will help Fire Island National Seashore inspire stewardship and engage local communities. Undergraduate and graduate students with career goals and an interest in the natural sciences, history, education, and/or community outreach are encouraged to apply by February 6, 2018.

Applicants must be:

  • Ages 18 to 35
  • US Citizen or legal resident
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a higher education program
  • Bilingual - able to converse fluently and prepare written material in Spanish
  • Able to operate a motor vehicle and possess valid Driver's License

Lifeguard Requirements

Open lifeguard positions will be posted above and on USAJOBS. All lifeguards must pass a pre-employment exam before applying. Tests are generally conducted during the winter or early spring. For more information on lifeguard positions call 1-800-678-7946.
