Distance Learning

Note: Due to staffing vacancies, all distance learning programs are currently on hold. Please check back later!

Logistically, it isn’t always possible to bring your class to the recreation area, but with Distance Learning, we bring our knowledge of the parks to you!

What is Distance Learning?

Distance Learning is live, two-way communication between park rangers and your class. Rangers use props, photos and video, and demonstrations to share Curecanti's geology, ecology, and human history with your students. Our programs are fun, interactive, and we love answering your students' questions about Curecanti and the National Park Service!

Distance Learning Program Menu

  • Ask a Ranger- K-12: Students prepare questions ahead of time and spend 15-45 minutes with the ranger discussing ecology, geology and human history, as well as life and work as a park ranger. Please email your question to rangers 2 weeks before the program date to allow us time to prepare visual aids. This program can be tailored to your specific education objectives.
  • Black Canyon Geology- MS-HS: The most frequent question park visitors ask rangers is how did Black Canyon form? This 45-minute program walks students through the specific sequence of geologic processes that formed the striking and unique Black Canyon of the Gunnison. [NGSS Alignment: MS-ESS1-4 and MS-ESS2-2]
  • Ranger Careers MS-HS-College: With over 400 national park units across the country, the NPS workforce includes many diffferent and important jobs. In this 45-minute program, students learn about the variety of careers in the National Park Service. This program can be tailored to your specific education objectives.
