The island is situated in an area surrounded by parks and communities with a wide range of recreational opportunities.

 

The Southeast Coast Saltwater Paddling Trail is a long range route which connects the Chesapeake Bay and the south Georgia Coast near St. marys, Georgia. The paddling trail, known as the SECT, connects several National Park Service areas including Cumberland Island National Seashore.
