HIGHLIGHT! NPS Climate Change Report for Coltsville NHP

In November of 2019, Coltsville National Historical Park conducted a Climate Friendly Parks (CFP) Workshop in conjunction with Springfield Armory National Historic Site.

The CFP team brought in various instructors and speakers to discuss topics such as:

  • Climate Change Science

  • Impacts in the Northeast, and specifically in Hartford, CT

  • Greenhouse gas emissions

  • Energy efficiency and renewable energy opportunities with historic structures

  • Preservation practices for urban landscapes and historic structures

  • Greening our fleet

  • Telling a climate change story

  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for historic restoration

As the park develops, the NPS will continue to keep environmental sustainability at the forefront. Park staff hopes to complete a full Climate Action Plan within a few years of full operations.
