Celebrate World Oceans Day this year by taking a virtual dive into the kelp forest without ever getting wet by joining a special Live Dive program at Channel Islands National Park. Interact with diving park rangers to learn about current threats to our oceans and how you can help conserve our coastal and ocean resources. Special broadcasts of Channel Islands Live Dive will occur every day June 6-9, 2012, at the following times: These Live Dive broadcasts will be transmitted from underwater at Anacapa Island, fourteen miles offshore from Ventura, California, to West Coast aquariums from Alaska to southern California. Audiences at these locations will have the rare opportunity to interact with park scuba divers in real time from this remote island. All Live Dive programs can also be seen at the Channel Islands National Park Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center at 1901 Spinnaker Drive in Ventura Harbor and via the Internet at: https://www.nps.gov/chis/planyourvisit/live-programs.htm. Channel Islands Park Foundation contributed to this year's celebration through financial support of new video conferencing equipment for this program, which is an educational partnership between the park and Ventura County Office of Education. There are two additional events in Ventura Harbor on Saturday, June 9, 2012, to celebrate World Oceans Day. National Marina Day will be recognized with an event at Ventura Harbor Village from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm that includes displays on water safety, tours of harbor boats and wildlife ponds, food tasting, and live music. At Harbor Cove Beach there will be a race of traditional Polynesian outrigger canoes from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Hundreds of paddlers from throughout southern California are expected to attend this event, which is hosted by Hokuloa Outrigger Canoe Club.
