Channel Islands National Park Superintendent Russell Galipeau will be the guest speaker for the November "From Shore to Sea" lecture sponsored by Channel Islands National Park and Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary. Galipeau will discuss the accomplishments of the park in 2006 and the challenges facing the park.

During his presentation Galipeau will share updates on the management actions taken to preserve the biological diversity and cultural values of the park and sanctuary, including recent efforts to save the endangered island fox from the brink of extinction, restore bald eagles, protect marine ecosystems, and remove non-native plants and animals.

For the past three years Superintendent Galipeau has led restoration activities at the Channel Islands after transferring from Yosemite National Park. During his 25-year career he has worked at nine National Park Service sites from Florida to Alaska, including a position as chief of resources at the largest national park in the system.Wrangell St. Elias National Park and Preserve in Alaska.

The lectures occur at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2006, at the Chase Palm Park building at 236 E. Cabrillo Blvd. in Santa Barbara and Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at the Channel Islands National Park Robert J. Lagomarsino Visitor Center located at 1901 Spinnaker Drive in the Ventura Harbor. The programs are free and open to the public.
