Its disk flowers are purplish-brown and are surrounded by golden ray flowers with a diameter of 2-3 inches. From its common name, we can tell about what habitat the Swamp Sunflower likes best. It prefers wet soil (hense the "swamp") and full sun ("sunflower"). Its native habitat is in floodplains and in bottomlands. It blooms later in the year, and brings a cheerful splash of color in late summer and well into the fall while many other plants are dying back.
