Rough-stemmed Goldenrod (Solidago rugosa) is native to the Eastern United States. It is a member of the aster family and is a perennial which grows from 1-6 feet high. Because goldenrod attracts a wide variety of insects, it is beneficial to insectivorous birds. It prefers full sun to light shade, moist conditions, and soil that is sandy, loamy, or gravelly with a slightly acid pH. Look for blooms from July to October in fields, roadsides, and borders of woods. |
