A bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) was sited this morning approximately 1 mile downstream of the Johnson Ferry Bridge. Dennis Teague called in with this exciting report.
Usually this magnificent raptor is seen closer to the Morgan Falls dam, but in recent years the sitings have been from East Palisades and the Devil's racecourse areas of the park.
We do keep an observation log, so if you happen to see, hear, or experience something unique or interesting, please let us know.
I saw a bald Eagle Sunday Morning 2/10 at Jones Bridge Park in Peachtree Corners, just downriver of the shoals. I got a few rough photos with my phone.
Spotted at 3.15pm today flying over my backyard. Have some poor quality iPhone pics...how can I upload?
Sighting this morning, 1/13/19. Flew right over my deck at 9:30am after a squirrel, sitting on the railing. He was HUGE!!! BEAUTIFUL white head. Giant wing span, like a freaking airplane. Almost like he was flying in slow motion. Got a real good look. I'm absolutely AMAZED. I know someone else has seen him out here. He's gotta be hard to miss.
Got a great pic of a pair of Bald Eagles at Overlook Park, Morgan Falls. I have actually seen them many times now. Happy to share the pics!!
Saw what appeared to be a young, although sexually mature bald eagle perched above me while sitting on the bench on the Morgan Falls Overlook Park hiking trail. I assume it was simultaneously getting a closer look at me while also hunting for fish in the shallows along the island right before the dam. At first I didn't see him, but it startled me when it came in for a closer look. It was an awe-inspiring experience.
We saw a bald eagle today around 1:30pm while hiking on the East Palisades trail north of Long Island and south of powers ferry sitting in a tree hanging over the river. We watched it until it flew across to the west side of the river. It was beautiful!
Saw a bald eagle today! I was walking along the Chattahoochee River in the West Palisades park, a little bit south of Walton on the Chattahoochee. I saw a big bird in the distance, then it flew right over my family and into the woods. When it flew over I could very clearly see the dark body, huge wingspan, and white tail and head feathers. About 5 minutes later, I saw it perch on a tree on the far side of the river. What an amazing sight and an amazing creature!
I saw a large bird of prey flying over Timberlea Lake subdivision near Terrell Mill Park today. It had a dark body and a white head. I thought at the time it looks like a bald eagle! But I had no idea they were here in GA. After doing some research, I see they are here and I was gifted today to see my national emblem! Wow! I will never look at another iconic picture of our national emblem the same way. What a treasure to see it fly!
1/1/16 - my sister and I watched a beautiful bald eagle swoop into the top of a magnolia tree at brawner park on Atlanta road in Smyrna, ga on New Year's Day evening. She/he sat at the top and watched us walk closer and closer to the tree to get a better look. there was no mistaking her magnificently shaped head, beak and white collar. I tried to take photos with my IPhone, but it was dark. when she had enough of us admiring her, she flew across the park to a tree on the other side. It was a truly specular experience.
We spoted the eagle south of Morgan falls, yesterday morning, May 14. She was being chased what seems to be a couple osprays. Nice white head and tail and brown body!
Bald eagles also nest around the Columns Drive area, and can be seen catching fish from the river.
I saw a bald eagle 1/2 mile below Powers Fy, around the lower portion of the Devils Racecourse rapids, on Sun. Dec. 1, around 2 p.m. Magificent!
