Dosamantes: Tres Muchachas Sentadas
"DosAmantes: Tres Muchachas Sentadas (Three Seated Girls)"
Stone lithograph on paper

DosAmantes

Chamizal National Memorial houses the Joy and Arthur Addis Collection, a grouping of 20th century Mexican art. This collection is the product of careful and discriminating collecting by a couple who, in the 1950s, recognized the emergence of the younger artists of post-revolutionary Mexico. Fascination with the works of Coronel, DosAmantes, Icaza, and others led to the assembly of one of the finest private collections of this group in the United States.

In 1978, Mr. and Mrs. Addis decided that the collection merited viewing by the widest possible audience, and in searching for a museum location where the collection would be appropriate, selected Chamizal National Memorial as the recipient of their generous donation.

This collection of Mexican figurative paintings showcases the various trends that pervaded Mexican painting from the late 1940's into the early 70's. The artists are well-known in Europe, South America, and Central America. These pieces of art are considered to be part of the main trend of the International Movement of the second half of the 20th century.
