NPS Photo/Melissa Weih
Wildflowers at Capulin Volcano start blooming around May and will bloom thoughout the summer until September or October. June and July will see the prairie and the top of the volcano dotted with bright splashes of color from blooming wildflowers. Depending on the amount of precipitation (rain/snow) in the spring, wildflowers could be either abundant or hard to spot. Some of the more common wildflowers to see include sunflowers, prickly pear cactus, penstamon, lupine, golden pea, wallflower, prickly poppy, indian paintbush, fleabane, daisy, coneflowers, evening primrose, and thistle.
