Contact: Paula Bauer
Carlsbad Caverns National Park joins sites around the country in waiving general entry fees on National Get Outdoors Day, June 9. At Carlsbad Caverns, the general entry fee includes two cave tours - the Natural Entrance and Big Room. Fees for audio guides and ranger guided tours will still apply.
"Healthy, active, outdoor fun is what National Get Outdoors Day is all about," said Carlsbad Caverns National Park Superintendent John Benjamin, " and touring a cool cave is a great way to be active on a hot New Mexico day." The temperature inside Carlsbad Cavern is 56 degrees year round, so long sleeves or a jacket is recommended. Normally, the price of entry is $6 per adult, 16 and older. Children 15 and younger are always free and must be accompanied by an adult.
Whether underground or outside, with a park ranger or on your own, there are many things to do and see at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. For more information cave tours, bat flight programs, and other activities, call 575-785-2232 or visit www.nps.gov/cave.
Future dates when entry fees will be waived at all National Park Service areas are National Public Lands Day, September 29, and Veterans Day Weekend, November 10-12. And remember many NPS sites never charge an entry fee. Learn more at www.nps.gov.
