Why 3D Scan the Castillo de San Marcos?

This project will preserve, for all time, the historical features that are negatively impacted by time, erosion, and the effects of climate change.

About the Project

The 3D Digital Documentation project will digitally record historic graffiti, artwork, and architectural features of Castillo de San Marcos National Monument. These digital records will make these often-inaccessible and very difficult to see components of the fort’s history available to visitors.

Once scanning is complete, the three-dimensional documentation of details will provide us records of current conditions and baseline data to monitor effects of climate change. They also give us an incredible 3-D tour of the Castillo!
