Exhibits The Desert Light Gallery is pleased to present Mojave National Preserve Artists in Residence exhibitions each year. Since the turn of the last century, transcontinental railroads have promoted rail travel to national parks by producing framed prints and advertising art that depicts the beauty of these national treasures. This and other western scenic art awakened a nation to the magnificent beauty of the west found in our national parks. The tradition of close ties between the railroads, art, and national parks continues at the Desert Light Gallery in Kelso Depot Visitor Center. Artists in the ParksArtists are invited to become part of this tradition through Mojave National Preserve’s Artist-in-Residence program. Selected individuals will discover and interpret this landscape through their own creative projects. Hosted by national park personnel, these artists will have opportunities to explore, hike and become a conduit for promoting an understanding of the Mojave in new and unique ways. The goal of the program is to provide artistic and educational opportunities to promote a deeper understanding of and to become part of the dialogue about the natural and cultural resources of Mojave National Preserve. How to ApplyThe Mojave National Preserve Artist Foundation manages the Artist in Residence program. The Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization and raises funds for the Kousch Homestead Residence, the new home for Mojave artists with a residency grant.
