Harkers Island, N.C. – The National Park Service Incident Management Team (IMT) is responding to national parks impacted by Hurricane Florence. At this time, 77 National Park Service employees from 33 parks and 17 states and the District of Columbia are assigned to the incident. The public should not enter closed areas of parks until stabilization and restoration efforts are complete.

Cape Lookout National Seashore – CLOSED (EXCEPT FOR BEAUFORT VIC)

  • The Beaufort Visitor Information Center reopened today.

    • Hours of operation are daily from 8:30 am to 5 pm.

  • All other visitor facilities and services remain closed; a reopening schedule is not available at this time.

  • Crews completed repairs to the Harkers Island Visitor Center Harbor docks.

  • Staff have identified four miles of the Back Island Sand Road on South Core Banks which will need to be rerouted.

  • Crews are placing temporary ramp signs on South Core Banks.

  • Crews continue to make emergency repairs to roofs at Great Island area.

  • Additional emergency stabilization of the Portsmouth and Long Point areas will continue tomorrow.

  • Reservations for Long Point Cabins have been canceled for the remainder of the season.

  • Reservations for the Great Island Cabins have been canceled through October 25.

    • Cancellations may be extended; an update will be provided when available.

                                                            
Moores Creek National Battlefield – CLOSED

  • Flood waters continue to recede (approximately 15 from high water mark), which is still approximately eight feet above normal. Much of the park remains flooded.

  • A debris clearing crew will be on site tomorrow to begin clearing downed limbs and other debris caused by the storm and flooding.

  • Work in administrative areas continues while water recedes from public areas.

  • Formal assessments and stabilization cannot begin until water recedes.

  • A reopening schedule is not available at this time.
