Harkers Island, N.C. – Cape Lookout National Seashore’s Visitor Information Center in Beaufort will resume regular hours of operation from 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 27. All other park facilities remain closed, no reopening schedule has been identified at this time. Facilities will reopen as grounds and structures are stabilized and deemed safe for the public.

The Beaufort Information Center is located on the first floor of the Beaufort Town Hall at 701 Front St, Beaufort, North Carolina. In addition to park information, the site has exhibits on island ecology and history, Junior Ranger and Junior Ranger Adventure booklets, and a park passport stamp.

This is the first facility to reopen to the public since the park closed on Monday, September 10, in anticipation of Hurricane Florence. The category one storm which lingered over the area for several days caused island washover and facility damages including docks, waterways, and visitor camp cabins.

Updates about national parks impacted by Hurricane Florence are available on the park website at https://www.nps.gov/calo/index.htm and the park Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/CapeLookoutNPS/
