Tree Removal and Controlled Pile Burns at Portsmouth Village

HARKERS ISLAND, NC – Cape Lookout National Seashore will have a Conservation Legacy Women’s Fire Crew on site in Portsmouth Village beginning today, Tuesday, February 21st 2023. This fire crew will be cutting down dead or hazardous trees. Disposal of these trees will be done through controlled pile burning. Members of the public should expect to see smoke in the vicinity of the village throughout the coming days. We expect all burning to be completed by Tuesday, February 28th, 2023.
