HARKERS ISLAND, NC – The most recent winter storm brought freezing temperatures and winds which exceeded 50 miles-per-hour to Cape Lookout National Seashore. As a result of that storm, the ferry dock at the Cape Lookout Lighthouse sustained substantial damage.

Park staff have reviewed that damage and determined that the dock should be closed out of concern for public safety. Until the damage is repaired, and the dock is reopened for public use, park visitors should not utilize the dock for any purpose.

Update: Island Express Ferry Service has identified a drop-off location along the beach about 1000 feet north of the lighthouse. They have resumed service and are dropping off and picking up from this alternate location while the dock undergoes repairs. For additional information on scheduling ferry transportation, visitors may contact Island Express directly at (252) 728-7433.
