Post-Hurricane Isaias at Cape Lookout National Seashore Advisory #4

HARKERS ISLAND, NC – The National Park Service is assessing for any impacts due to Hurricane Isaias. Currently, very few damages to park facilities or resources have been found.

• The Harkers Island Visitor Center will reopen on Friday, August 7.
  • Hours of operation are daily from 9:00 A.M. to 5 P.M.
• The Keepers' Quarters Museum will reopen on Friday, August 7.
  • Hours of operation are daily from 9:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
• The Beaufort Visitor Information Center, the Light Station Visitor Center, and the Lighthouse will remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Passenger ferry service (via Island Express Ferry Service) to Shackleford Banks, from Beaufort and Harkers Island, will resume operations on Thursday, August 6. For more information, call [phone], or visit the web at: www.islandexpressferryservice.com.
  • Hours of operation, from Beaufort: daily, every 30 minutes from 8:30 A.M. - 5:30 P.M.
  • Hours of operation, from Harkers Island: daily, every hour from 8:15 A.M. – 5:45 P.M.
• North Core, South Core, and Shackleford Banks beaches are open for day-use and camping.
• The Great Island Cabins will reopen on Friday, August 7. For more information regarding cancelled, or upcoming reservations, contact Recreation.gov at [phone], or on the web at: www.recreation.gov.
• Visitors with vehicle ferry reservations may call their respective ferry for more information regarding schedule and/or reservations at the following: For visitors heading to North Core Banks - Morris Marina (Atlantic, NC; [phone]), and for visitors heading to South Core Banks - Cape Lookout Cabins and Camps Ferry Service (Davis, NC; [phone]), or Davis Shore Ferry (Davis, NC; [phone]).

The National Park Service staff will be monitoring ongoing recovery efforts regarding Hurricane Isaias and will post updates as needed on the park website and via Facebook and Twitter.
