HARKERS ISLAND, NC –Cape Lookout National Seashore will illuminate the iconic lighthouse in celebration of the holiday season, and in recognition of Carteret County communities, and beyond, that are still recovering from the devastation left behind after Hurricane Florence roared through on September 13, 2018.
The lights will shine on the black and white diamonds of the lighthouse on Saturday, December 1, and again on Monday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) from 6:30P.M. to 9:30 P.M.
The park chose the first Saturday in December as a way of supporting their partner (The Core Sound Waterfowl Museum and Heritage Center), and all Down East-communities, in their effort to keep the annual Waterfowl Weekend going, despite the terrible destruction taken from Florence’s winds and rains.
Christmas Eve was chosen as a way of saying ‘Thank You’, and as a sign of appreciation to all of the Crystal Coast-community during these difficult times of hurricane recovery.
