HARKERS ISLAND, NC – Cape Lookout National Seashore announces this year’s Evening at the Cape program schedule, which will begin with three programs on Thursday, June 8th, Friday, June 9th, and Saturday, June 10, 2017.
These evening programs will be offered on select dates near the full moon during the months of June, July, August, September, and October. Pack your flashlight and experience South Core Banks and the lighthouse as the Light Keepers did, in the dark of night. Hear stories of years gone by, watch the sunset, the moonrise, and the stars appear on the unlit beaches of your national seashore. Discover a different side to your favorite beach!
Reservations are required for the Evening at the Cape programs and will be taken the Monday of the week before the program dates at www.recreation.gov, starting at 10 a.m. For instance, the June programs will begin taking reservations on May 29th, at 10 a.m. Each tour will accommodate a maximum of 40 participants.
The cost of the program is $28 (price includes ferry fee) and is non-refundable (weather dependent). The Evening at the Cape program begins on Harkers Island at 7:15 p.m. under the ferry dock canopy. Please allow enough time ahead of the program start time to check your party in with the Ranger. All participants will travel together on a single ferry that departs shortly after the program begins. The ferry will return to Harkers Island at approximately 10:00 p.m.
Children joining the climb must be at least 44-inches tall and able to climb the steps on their own. Children 12 years of age and younger must be accompanied by an adult (16 or older). Closed-toe footwear is required as well. For more information go to: https://go.nps.gov/eveningatcape.htm.
