HARKERS ISLAND, NC – On January 10, 2017, the National Park Service (NPS) Southeast Regional Director signed the Record of Decision (ROD) for the Cape Lookout National Seashore’s Final Off-Road Vehicle Management Plan/Environmental Impact Statement (Final Plan). The Final Rule will be implemented following the plan's publication in the Federal Register.

The Final Plan was released to the public and published in the Federal Register on December 9, 2016. Alternative C was identified as the NPS’ preferred alternative in the Final Plan and the selected alternative in the ROD, https://go.nps.gov/1wveto.

The NPS received and considered more than 1,000 comments, which informed revisions made to the Final Plan. “The NPS recognizes that public interest in this plan was very high and appreciates all of the participation and input received throughout the planning process,” said acting Superintendent Mike Gauthier.

More information on the plan, including the ROD, can be found at: https://go.nps.gov/jsmrlj.
